Treat the Cause, Not Just the Symptoms
Knee pain that keeps you off the stairs, the trail or the bike? Maybe you’ve tried braces, injections or rest, and been told surgery is next. Your knee is often just where the pain shows up. We find and fix the muscle dysfunction causing it.
You don’t need a diagnosis to start. We take it from there with a thorough assessment and treatment in your first visit.
Fit one of these, or none of them? That’s exactly why we have a guarantee. We make sure we can help before you commit to anything.
The knee mostly does what the muscles around it tell it to. When muscles in the hips, thighs, calves or back stop working correctly, the knee takes the load. That’s muscle dysfunction, and it’s what we look for.
Rest, braces and painkillers quiet the pain. If the muscles don’t change, the pain comes back. We start with functional muscle testing to find which muscles aren’t working correctly, then build your plan around what we find.
Mark Rise, our founder and owner, leads all of our initial knee pain consultations. With over 25 years of experience, he has seen the pain show up in the same spot while the cause varied from client to client and called for a different plan each time. That experience is what lets Mark build the right plan for each individual client.
Once we know what’s causing your pain, your plan may combine:
Not every knee uses every tool. Your plan is built around what your evaluation shows. This is part of our full approach to pain management in Fort Collins.

From Daily Pain to Race Day
“In my 50’s my body was failing me. I have always been active but persistent back and knee pain had me barely able to make it down the stairs for coffee in the morning. I tried everything, seriously everything short of surgery and nothing helped. MRT was the answer for me. Now, one week shy of turning 60 I am back on my bike and training for a 6-hour endurance mountain bike race. I feel great and owe it all to Mark and his team. Can’t recommend them highly enough.”

Fort Collins is built for moving, and knees pay for it:
Sound like you? It’s incredibly common here, and it doesn’t have to be something you accept.
In the people we help, the most common cause is muscle dysfunction in the back, hips, thighs or calves. When those muscles don’t work correctly, extra load lands on the knee. Functional muscle testing shows which muscles are the cause.
Stairs ask a lot of the muscles that stabilize the knee. If they aren’t working as they should, more pressure shifts to the kneecap and the tissue around it. Restoring proper muscle function spreads that load again.
Squatting needs the hips, thighs and calves to share the work. If one group isn’t doing its part, the knee compensates. Finding which one is the starting point of your plan.
Walking is a basic movement that shouldn’t hurt. Pain with every step usually points to muscles that aren’t working correctly, repeated thousands of times a day.
Imaging describes the joint. It doesn’t always explain the pain you feel. We start with how your muscles are working and build the plan from there. A first visit is the way to find out what we can do for you.
It depends on how long the pain has been there and what’s causing it. Most clients notice a difference after their first visit (that’s the MRT Guarantee), with a fuller plan typically unfolding over several visits. We walk you through a clear plan at your first visit.
MRT is a cash-based clinic. We accept HSA/FSA cards, but we encourage you to check with your provider first to confirm coverage. We’re happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance directly, as some providers reimburse. We don’t communicate with insurance providers directly. Ask our front desk for details.
No referral needed. You can book a first appointment directly.
