Foot Pain Relief in Fort Collins

Treat the Cause, Not Just the Symptoms

Foot or heel pain that hurts with the first steps of the day, or by the end of a shift? Maybe you’ve tried new shoes, orthotics, stretching or rest, and it keeps coming back. Plantar fasciitis or not, your foot is often just where the pain shows up. We find and fix the muscle dysfunction causing it.

What Foot Pain Can Look Like

You don’t need a diagnosis to start. We take it from there with a thorough assessment and treatment in your first visit.

  • Sharp heel pain with your first steps out of bed or after sitting
  • Pain along the arch or the bottom of the foot
  • Aching feet after a shift, a run, a hike or a long day of standing
  • Pain in the ball of the foot or toes
  • Foot pain that moves up into the ankle or calf, or only shows on one side
  • Pain that hangs on after an old injury, new shoes or orthotics

Fit one of these, or none of them? That’s exactly why we have a guarantee. We make sure we can help before you commit to anything.

Plantar fasciitis and heel pain treatment in Fort Collins

Plantar fasciitis is the name often given to heel and arch pain, especially the first-steps-of-the-day kind. If that’s what you’ve been told, you’re in the right place. If you haven’t been told anything yet, you don’t need the label to get started.

The label describes where it hurts. It doesn’t say why your foot is taking the load. In the people we help, that answer is usually in the muscles of the calf, hip and back, which is why stretching the foot or resting it often doesn’t last.

  • Heel or arch pain that is worst first thing in the morning
  • Plantar fasciitis that “never goes away” or keeps returning
  • Pain with flat feet, high arches or after changing shoes
  • Heel pain that starts when you ramp up walking, running or time on your feet

Read how we approach it below, or start with a first visit.

Why the foot hurts (and why treating only the foot often doesn't last)

Your foot mostly does what the muscles above it tell it to. When muscles in the calves, hips or back stop working correctly, the foot takes the load with every step. That’s muscle dysfunction, and it’s what we look for.

  • Muscles that have “switched off” and stopped doing their job
  • Muscles working overtime to make up for them
  • A pattern that repeats with every step you take, thousands of times a day

Shoes, orthotics, rest and stretching help many people. If the muscles don’t change, the pain often comes back. We start with functional muscle testing to find which muscles aren’t working correctly, then build your plan around what we find.

The pattern runs the other way too. The same muscles at the hip and calf can load the knee as well as the foot, so if your knee aches too, see how we approach knee pain relief in Fort Collins. We test the whole chain, not just the foot.

How we treat foot pain at MRT

Once we know what’s causing your pain, your plan can combine:

  • Muscle Restoration Therapy (MRT): hands-on work that targets the specific muscles found during your evaluation.
  • SoftWave therapy: non-invasive acoustic wave treatment applied directly at the foot or heel, to support the body’s own healing response.
  • Class IV laser therapy: used alongside SoftWave or on its own, depending on your case.
  • PEMF therapy: pulsed electromagnetic therapy that supports your recovery between muscle-focused visits.

Not every foot uses every tool. Your plan is built around what your evaluation shows. This is part of our full approach to pain management in Fort Collins.

I trashed my back playing golf and was literally crippled for 2 weeks when a friend recommended Mark at MRT. Although skeptical I knew the normal choices, doctor, PT or chiropractor would not solve the problem so I made an appointment and met with Mark. Within 3 weeks I was out of pain and after 6 weeks the problem was solved. My issue was severe so it took some time to get over it. I’m glad I went and you will be too. I highly recommend MRT for chronic pain.

I absolutely recommend Mark Rise at Muscle Restoration Therapy! I love running but hadn’t been able to run for over 10 months. After getting an MRI, I was told I might have a joint disease, which was discouraging. I went to see Mark ONE time, and after evaluating my knee and body, he gave me specific exercises using a power massager. I started them right away, and within 2 weeks I was able to complete my first 3-mile run completely pain-free. Now I’m back to running 4–5 days a week! I’ve continued doing the exercises Mark gave me, along with red light therapy at MRT twice a week, and my progress has been incredible. I can’t thank Mark enough for helping me get back to something I love. Highly recommend!

Mark and the team at Muscle Restoration are excellent! I came in with back pain that was difficult to diagnose, and Mark was patient and took the time to understand the root problem. He worked to get my back feeling better, not only through skilled care, but also by educating me. He helps you learn how to address back problems at home so that you stay healthy in the long run. So grateful for his care and expertise! I have already recommended Mark to several other people!

I had what I called “leg-butt” and Mark tested me, advised me in what I need to do and it took care of the pain. Now what I need to do is a part of my daily routine and have remained pain free. I so appreciate Mark and the help he has given me. Thanks!

Mark is a genius I say! By far the best I’ve ever had. Really knows his stuff ! Fixed me physically and mentally as far as my back is concerned! Had good advice and the only one that wanted to watch me load and unload my equipment. Gave me an exercise routine that I do in a chair that you wouldn’t even know I’m doing for the most part. Others only told me to get new job!

The team at MRT are fantastic. From the day you start with them you can immediately see & feel their passion to help you get better. They talk you through everything they are doing & empower you to do your homework and see the results. When my back proved to be more stubborn than initially diagnosed they added in the SoftWave therapy and that was an awesome decision! Several areas in my back began to respond so quickly to this treatment. This is a committed group of health professionals!

At 14 years old, I was struggling with Osgood-Schlatter disease and thought I’d be stuck wearing orthotics for the rest of my life. That’s when I met Mark from Muscle Restoration, and he completely changed my perspective on healing. His techniques didn’t just mask the pain—they actually fixed the problem. I was blown away. Nearly a decade later, I came back to Mark with a shoulder injury, and once again, he worked his magic. His expertise is unmatched, and his dedication to truly helping people is even more impressive. Amazing service, even better man. Recommended 11/10 Ps. The new office is amazing!

Fort Collins is a town that stays on its feet, and feet pay for it. The heel and arch pain we see here tends to come from:

  • Runners building toward a race on the Poudre Trail or the Spring Creek Trail, and trail runners and hikers on steep ground at Horsetooth and Lory State Park
  • Cyclists whose feet take the same pedal stroke for hours
  • Cooks, nurses, teachers, servers and trades workers on their feet all shift
  • CSU students and desk workers sitting most of the day, then walking campus or training hard
  • Skiers and snowboarders in stiff boots through the winter

Sound like you? It’s common here, and it doesn’t have to be something you accept. Fort Collins is home, and we also serve clients from nearby Loveland and Windsor. Read what clients say in our reviews.

Foot Pain FAQs

What causes foot pain?

In the people we help, the most common cause is muscle dysfunction in the calves, hips or back. When those muscles don’t work correctly, extra load lands on the foot. Functional muscle testing shows which muscles are the cause.

Plantar fasciitis is the name given to heel and arch pain. What’s causing it varies from person to person. We start by finding which muscles aren’t working correctly, then build the plan around that.

The first steps after rest ask a lot of the calf and foot muscles. If they aren’t working as they should, the heel takes more load. Restoring proper muscle function spreads that load again.

SoftWave can support your body’s own healing response at the heel and arch. At MRT it’s one part of a plan built on finding and restoring the muscles that aren’t working, not a stand-alone fix. We explain what to expect at your visit.

Yes. Foot shape is part of the picture, but pain with flat feet or high arches still involves how the muscles are working. We start with how yours are working and build from there.

It depends on how long the pain has been there and what’s causing it. Most clients notice a difference after their first visit (that’s the MRT Guarantee), with a fuller plan typically unfolding over several visits. We walk you through a clear plan at your first visit.

MRT is a cash-based clinic. We accept HSA/FSA cards, but we encourage you to check with your provider first to confirm coverage. We’re happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance directly, as some providers reimburse. We don’t communicate with insurance providers directly. Ask our front desk for details.

No referral needed. You can book a first appointment directly.
