Neck Pain Relief in Fort Collins

Treat the Cause, Not Just the Symptoms

Neck pain that makes turning your head, working at a desk or sleeping harder than it should be? Maybe you’ve tried stretches, posture fixes or a new pillow, and it keeps coming back. Your neck is often just where the pain shows up. We find and restore the muscle dysfunction causing it.

What Neck Pain Can Look Like

You don’t need a diagnosis to start. We take it from there with a thorough assessment and treatment in your first visit.

  • Aching or sharp pain in the neck that spreads into the upper back
  • A stiff neck, or stiffness when you turn your head or look up
  • Headaches that start at the base of your skull
  • Pain after hours at a desk, on a phone or on a long commute
  • Pain on one side only, or pain that wakes you at night
  • Pain that hangs on after stretches, posture fixes or a new pillow

Fit one of these, or none of them? That’s exactly why we have a guarantee. We make sure we can help before you commit to anything.

Neck pain with headaches or arm symptoms

Neck pain often comes with headaches at the base of the skull, a tight upper back, or tingling down an arm. If that’s you, you’re in the right place. Those are where the pain shows up. They don’t say why it’s there.

In the people we help, the answer is usually in the muscles around the neck and upper back, which is why stretching or posture fixes often don’t last.

  • Headaches that start at the base of your skull
  • Neck pain that spreads into the upper back
  • Tingling or numbness that travels down an arm
  • Neck pain that keeps coming back after posture fixes or a new pillow

If you have sudden weakness, a severe headache or pain after an injury, see a doctor first.

Read how we approach it below, or start with a first visit.

Why the neck hurts (and why treating only the neck often doesn't last)

Your neck mostly does what the muscles around it tell it to. When muscles in the neck, shoulder blades and upper back stop working correctly, the neck takes the load every time you turn, look down or lift your head. That’s muscle dysfunction, and it’s what we look for.

  • Muscles that have “switched off” and stopped doing their job
  • Muscles working overtime to make up for them
  • A pattern that repeats every time you move your head, thousands of times a day

Stretches, posture fixes, pillows and rest help many people. If the muscles don’t change, the pain often comes back. We start with functional muscle testing to find which muscles aren’t working correctly, then build your plan around what we find.

With over 25 years of experience, Mark Rise has seen the pain show up in the same spot while the cause varied from person to person and needed a different plan each time.

Your first step is a consult with MRT's founder Mark Rise

Every pain management plan at MRT starts with a consult with Mark Rise, our founder and clinical lead, with more than 25 years of experience. He tests which muscles are not working, treats what he finds in the same visit, and tells you straight whether we can help.

That first visit is the one our guarantee covers.

Neck pain treatment at MRT in Fort Collins

Once we know what’s causing your pain, your plan can combine:

  • Muscle Restoration Therapy (MRT): hands-on work that targets the specific muscles found during your evaluation.
  • Spinal decompression: gentle, non-invasive decompression with the Back On Trac system, used when your evaluation shows it fits.
  • SoftWave therapy: non-invasive acoustic wave treatment applied directly at the neck or upper back, to support the body’s own healing response.
  • Class IV laser therapy: used alongside SoftWave or on its own, depending on your case.
  • PEMF therapy: pulsed electromagnetic therapy that supports your recovery between muscle-focused visits.

Not every neck uses every tool. Your plan is built around what your evaluation shows. This is part of our full approach to pain management in Fort Collins.

  • It’s a non-invasive treatment; there’s no needle, no drug and no downtime.
  • It’s one part of your plan, not a standalone fix, because the muscles still have to work correctly.
  • Pricing is discussed at your visit.

I trashed my back playing golf and was literally crippled for 2 weeks when a friend recommended Mark at MRT. Although skeptical I knew the normal choices, doctor, PT or chiropractor would not solve the problem so I made an appointment and met with Mark. Within 3 weeks I was out of pain and after 6 weeks the problem was solved. My issue was severe so it took some time to get over it. I’m glad I went and you will be too. I highly recommend MRT for chronic pain.

I absolutely recommend Mark Rise at Muscle Restoration Therapy! I love running but hadn’t been able to run for over 10 months. After getting an MRI, I was told I might have a joint disease, which was discouraging. I went to see Mark ONE time, and after evaluating my knee and body, he gave me specific exercises using a power massager. I started them right away, and within 2 weeks I was able to complete my first 3-mile run completely pain-free. Now I’m back to running 4–5 days a week! I’ve continued doing the exercises Mark gave me, along with red light therapy at MRT twice a week, and my progress has been incredible. I can’t thank Mark enough for helping me get back to something I love. Highly recommend!

Mark and the team at Muscle Restoration are excellent! I came in with back pain that was difficult to diagnose, and Mark was patient and took the time to understand the root problem. He worked to get my back feeling better, not only through skilled care, but also by educating me. He helps you learn how to address back problems at home so that you stay healthy in the long run. So grateful for his care and expertise! I have already recommended Mark to several other people!

I had what I called “leg-butt” and Mark tested me, advised me in what I need to do and it took care of the pain. Now what I need to do is a part of my daily routine and have remained pain free. I so appreciate Mark and the help he has given me. Thanks!

Mark is a genius I say! By far the best I’ve ever had. Really knows his stuff ! Fixed me physically and mentally as far as my back is concerned! Had good advice and the only one that wanted to watch me load and unload my equipment. Gave me an exercise routine that I do in a chair that you wouldn’t even know I’m doing for the most part. Others only told me to get new job!

The team at MRT are fantastic. From the day you start with them you can immediately see & feel their passion to help you get better. They talk you through everything they are doing & empower you to do your homework and see the results. When my back proved to be more stubborn than initially diagnosed they added in the SoftWave therapy and that was an awesome decision! Several areas in my back began to respond so quickly to this treatment. This is a committed group of health professionals!

At 14 years old, I was struggling with Osgood-Schlatter disease and thought I’d be stuck wearing orthotics for the rest of my life. That’s when I met Mark from Muscle Restoration, and he completely changed my perspective on healing. His techniques didn’t just mask the pain—they actually fixed the problem. I was blown away. Nearly a decade later, I came back to Mark with a shoulder injury, and once again, he worked his magic. His expertise is unmatched, and his dedication to truly helping people is even more impressive. Amazing service, even better man. Recommended 11/10 Ps. The new office is amazing!

Neck Pain FAQs

What helps a stiff neck?

Heat, gentle movement and a day or two of rest can calm a stiff neck. If it keeps coming back, the muscles that support your neck have usually stopped working correctly, and other muscles are carrying the load. That’s what we test for and treat at MRT, so stiff neck relief lasts instead of wearing off.

Keep moving gently within what feels safe; forcing the turn rarely helps. If it isn’t easing within a few days, or it keeps happening, book a first visit. We find which muscles aren’t doing their job and treat the cause in that visit.

Gentle movement and heat or ice can calm it for a day. If it keeps coming back, the muscles that support your neck aren’t working correctly, and that’s what we look for.

Pain on one side usually points to muscles on that side that aren’t working correctly while the others compensate. We test both sides, find which muscles aren’t working, and build the plan around that.

The neck and upper back share muscles with the arm, so when some of them stop working correctly, lifting the arm loads the neck instead. We test both areas at your first visit. If the shoulder turns out to be the bigger problem, see shoulder pain relief in Fort Collins.

It depends on how long the pain has been there and what’s causing it. Most clients notice a difference after their first visit, with a fuller plan unfolding over several visits. We walk you through a clear plan at your first visit. The MRT Guarantee: Feel at least 50% better after your first pain management visit, or it’s free.

See a doctor promptly if neck pain comes with fever, unexplained weight loss, a severe headache, chest pain, or follows a recent injury. If we see something outside what we treat, we’ll tell you.

Your first visit is a consult with Mark Rise. He uses functional muscle testing to find which muscles are causing your neck pain, explains what he found, and treats the cause in the same visit. No referral is needed, and you can book directly.
